About Michelle
Hi! I’m Michelle, and I am so incredibly honoured that you are here and possibly beginning or continuing your healing journey with me. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), Art therapist, supervisor, and founder of Cedar and Waves Psychotherapy. My hope for Cedar and Waves is to provide a safe space to offer art-based therapy, where the unique stories of my clients can be honoured and healing can occur.
My work began in nonprofit organizations offering talk, art, and play therapy to children, adolescents, parents, and families. I then entered into the realm of private practice prior to creating Cedar and Waves, my own practice. The individuals I worked with experienced a wide range of difficulties and each had their own unique stories to tell. With each client I grew as a therapist and I am thankful for each and every individual I have met along my professional journey as they have truly helped shape me into the therapist I am today.
After my undergraduate degree I found myself traveling across the country from Ontario to British Columbia and found home in North Vancouver. This is where I completed my masters degree in counselling psychology and art therapy and began my professional and adult journey to becoming who I am today. Four years later and countless memories and experiences, I left BC, a place I will always call home, and I made my way back to Ontario to be closer to family. This is where my professional journey truly began and I become a mom to two wonderfully spirited and strong girls. Becoming a mother opened my eyes to where I want my career to go and what population I want to focus my practice on. This is when Cedar and Waves was born. A place where your children and yourself can find support. A place where I hope you stumble across as you enter the world of motherhood. A place that is safe, welcoming, healing, empowering, and fun.
I am a graduate of Athabasca University paired with the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute with a Master’s of Counselling Specializing in Art Therapy degree. I am registered with the College of Psychotherapists (CRPO) and a professional member of the Canadian Art Therapy Associstion (CATA) and the Canadian Association for Play Therapy (CAPT).
I have a deep respect and understanding for artistic and playful communication. I view art making and play as great tools for empowerment, growth, connection, and healing.

Cancellation Policy
I gently ask that if any session is to be canceled that you kindly let me know via phone, text, or email (24 hour in advance notice).
Any session that is missed or canceled with less than 24 hr notice will be billed the full session fee.
Wondering what your first session might look like? Well, it can vary! We are just getting to know each other and that means relationship and trust building. Just taking the step to contact me and walk into my office, is huge. You have taken the first step in your healing journey and that is incredibly courageous. You are showing up for you and beginning the work, so congratulations on taking that step!
This is your time and I want it to look how you might imagine it to look like. Perhaps that means little things like wearing comfortable clothes or bringing your favourite warm drink or taking a few big breathes and just come as you are.
In this first session, let’s get to know each other! Perhaps we will chat and perhaps we may dive into some art making, if that fits. The way of making art in art therapy is different than you may have experienced before. This is a time to let go of any previous ideas on skill and just be in the moment while creating, regardless of what it looks like. I will help you, if needed, to move aside your inner critic as you create, as it can be quite difficult. Remember this is a time for you to pause, breathe, play, create, and even have fun!
